Wildflower Connections | Neurodiversity-Affirming Speech Pathology

Wildflower Connections is a neurodiversity-affirming speech pathology practice supporting older children (Year 5+), teenagers and young adults through mobile sessions across Sydney and Telehealth Australia-wide. We support neurodivergent individuals, including autistic young people, to better understand themselves, communicate authentically, build meaningful relationships, strengthen self-advocacy, develop executive functioning skills, and navigate school, university, work and everyday life.

Our strengths-based, collaborative approach recognises that there is no single “right” way to communicate. Instead, we work alongside each person to understand their unique communication style, strengths, goals and support needs. Some of the ways we aim to make our practice neurodiversity-affirming include:

• Collaborative, person-centred goals.
• Respecting all communication styles and preferences.
• Supporting authentic communication rather than masking.
• Exploring concepts such as the Double Empathy Problem, monotropism, masking and autistic burnout where meaningful.
• Working alongside families, schools, universities and workplaces (with consent) to build understanding and more supportive environments.
• Promoting autonomy, self-advocacy and meaningful participation in everyday life.
