TBoard: Letterboard AAC Typing

TBoard is a typing-first AAC app for nonspeaking and minimally speaking people who communicate by spelling, including autistic spellers who use letterboards. It puts stencil-style letterboard layouts on an iPad or Android tablet and speaks whatever is typed.

It was built for the developer’s nonspeaking brother, whose barrier was the touchscreen itself. Letters register the moment the finger lands (or on lift, your choice), a tap guard filters accidental repeat taps, targets are large, and every letter can be spoken as it’s typed. Families can build their own boards from letters, words, phrases, symbols and photos, and there are daily spelling lessons plus a lesson builder that turns a photo of a worksheet into a lesson.

The letterboard is free; lessons are a subscription. Available on the Australian App Store and Google Play. Works with external keyboards. Independent typing: no facilitator, no physical support.
