Dr Barkley’s work is still in demand.

While Dr Barkley is now retired his work can be found on YouTube and via his website. Some of his videos have been viewed over 3 million times. A testament to his understanding of ADHD and his ability to articulate the traits of ADHD along with effective strategies.

“Raising happy, healthy children with ADHD comes down to these core actions: accepting your child for who they are, setting them up to succeed with their unique abilities in mind, and understanding that mistakes – on your part and your child’s – are inevitable” says Dr Barkley, Ph.D.

ADHD is Time Blindness

During Dr Barkley’s presentations he shares that ADHD is in fact time blindness. Or more so, a near sightedness to the future. It is why things are often left to the last minute, tasks without deadlines never get completed and why planning for future events can be difficult.

It is a disorder of;

  • Performance of not skill.
  • Doing what you know, not knowing what to do.
  • The when and where, not the how and what.
  • Using your past at the ‘Point of performance. (The point of performance is the place and time in your natural setting where you should use what you know, but do not)
